iPhone Anyone??

Indians seems to be crazy about cellphones. Cellphones have almost become a status-symbol of some sort back there. In Canada, on the other hand, cellphones are more of an convenience item. About 55% of Canadians have cellphones and the percentage is low because of two reasons; Firstly, Cellphone usage is still very expensive in Canada because we do not have the population size of India to support it. Hardly anyone sends sms here because you get charged for sending and receiving one. Secondly, a recent medical report showed the connection between cellphone usage and brain tumor because of strong radiations.

Anyways, I am not trying to scare the hell out of you but all this in Canada may change pretty soon. There is rumor than Apple is coming with iPod-cum-cellphone. iPod is a cultural phenomena in North America. The new generation is known as iPod generation and infact, iPod brings more profits for Apple then their whole Mac industry. Apple recently filed for a patent for iPhone. Since then, people have been coming up with "possible" designs of new iPhone. These are my top five designs (although new iPhone may not look anything like these because these are just based on speculation).

This seems like the most likely design with touch screen for iPod and slider keypad for cell. Although, in the time when cell phones are getting as smaller as Rakhi Sawant's brain, this still seems like a longer cell.

This cell designs theme goes with Mac computers but that's where they falter because this cellphone is designed to attract iPod users not Mac users. I just thought these designs were cool.

This was funkiest design but most unlikely because it doesn't go with the iPod theme and is too futuristic (atleast by 2 years) to carry 10, 000 songs and cellphone features.

This is one of the coolest designs which is true to iPod's design but a cellphone without a keypad can be a little tricky but didn't 'they' said the same thing about iPod too with its touch dial.

This is my ultimate favorite design because black is the color of the season. Black iPods sell 4 times better than white ones. Although, this one looks too futuristic to be true.

Which is your favorite iPhone?

Let me clear some doubts first......People in India are NOT crazy about cellphones....Its a necessity here too...Except for the portion of the population which can afford to change their cellphones every month or so....the rest of the middle class junta is pretty happy with Reliance '3999' ...Tata Indicomm '2999' offers....

Reliance totally changed the faced of the telecom industry...they dropped their call rates like anything & from then on ...its been a tough war with soo many market players...But this industry has given enormous number of jobs too :)

I have read/heard alot about the Apple iPhone & as per my secret resources in the US...the iPhone will be launched in the 1st quarter of 2007....

Ohh Black iPod is the BESTTT !!!
I like the 1st design & the last 2.....

Hey do you know Apple opened its office in Bangalore...recruited some 30 odd people...& then shut shop in 2 months...The heads decided that it was very difficult to keep the cream for long ...the attrition rate is soo high in India...They moved to South-East Asia...

i am second.. mera silver kidhar hain?hmmmm...coming back to cell phones, i agree with mehak, its a necessity here..first of all if you are on move constantly, having a landline doesnt work for you, besides incoming calls ad sms are free, so you will be connected.
i liked them all...and you know my birthday, rite;) ha ha ha

Here, we also have the same. All are crazy about cell phone. Only the 6-7 years back it was a just taken as a luxurious items and used by the business and rich people now it is used by all - It's due to the pre-paid SIM card - which you can get for Rs. 1250/- or ours and cell is available at Rs.3,000 too. It became fashion mainly among the youngster of school and collage girls and boys.

Now the TeleCom office have distributed new phone which is called Cphone which cost only Rs. 3300/- with the set. The SIM card can't be changed like in mobile but it's a mobile phone.

And what to say about Ipod. The same thing

I have to buy a new set so I also was thinking to buy a Ipod-Cell :)

I like the black one as it looks classy :).

I forgot to mentioned that 4 days back I saw the news that a recent medical report has proved that there is no connection between cell phone usage and brain tumor or cancer whereas we use think so.

I don't know which is the true report but one thing is sure that even though the first medical report, the usage of cell phone will not decrease.

mehak - Yes yes, for a change.

I am sorry to say but I don't agree with you. My friend who owns a mobile shop in Victoria went to India and saw the attitude towards cellphones. It was all about, mere friend ke pass N90 hain toh main bhi loonga.

It is one thing like clothes that you can carry and show off to others. Iseliye, Indians are also crazy about tag-name clothing. Although, I think North Indians are more guilty of showing off then their South counterparts.

Yahan pe we buy a cellphone with 2-3 years deal, so we can't change them atleast for three years (we get them for free/cheap though, this way).

Although, as you said, its not a bad thing to have a vibrant mobile community because it provides jobs. I never said that "showing off" is a bad thing because I am a Delhite too...lol.

Your secret sources are right because in January they are having this big Mac gala event/conference/trade-show that they have every year and that's where they will launch it.

Yes, I read that report and it demands another post...lol

preeti - Silver kya yaar, tum toh Gold lo [:P]. I agree with both of you on that part but it has become a show-off item too.

Mere yadhasth chalee gayee hain...he he.

faith - Yes Yes!!

Yea, exactly my point. My cellphone looks so ancient compared to ones in India.

Thank You jee!! Mujhe aapka last comment samajh nahin aaya **wink**

mehak - Its a craze but not among youngsters. Its too expensive to buy and maintain. Unless you are a multi-millionaire, you can't buy it for your kids.

Cellphones are mostly free as long as you buy with deal in US too.

I agree on that part that telephone boom is good but it doesn't take away the fact that its another way to bring class-difference in India.

People in Singapore are rich too na. I have some friends from there and you should look at their tech-gadgets.

I removed the word-verfication on your demand [:D]

anonymous - I know that cellphone lobbyists are paying medical teams to say so in order to increase sales, like the cigarette companies gave money to doctors to say that cigarette is not addictive.

nupur - I want to change my cell next April and hopefully we will get this new one by then. Its is estimated to be priced about $300, which is not bad with an iPod.

LOL @ SRK comment. Aaram se, yahan bahut fans hain uske...he he.

I don't see any use of comparing the cellphone deals in India/US/Canada..watever...Each Country has its own rules...

Here Reliance/Tata Indicomm has similar deals...where one gets the cellphone & free minutes for a specified amount of money...

haa, Class Differentiation...next you'll say Plasma TV's bring in Class Differentiation....
My maid has a cellphone & its sooo damn convenient, she wants to take a leave...she just calls me in advance & informs me....the local Paanwaalah has a cell....apna rick driver has one...

mehak - Aree woh sab theek hain yaar but I am saying ke show-off baazi ka shauk hota hain Indians ko. I remember my cousin went to buy jeans and said that he wants to buy so that he can show the label of Levis. If jeans do not have a label, its no use wearing it. Yahan pe yeh sab cheezen hoti hain but lot less. Yahan pe Levis ke kaee jeans main label bhi nahin hota outside.

I am not putting Indians down kyunki main khudh bahut show-off karta hoon. Its in our blood, so am just stating the obvious.
